US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested 28 Disney cruise ship employees as part of a large child sexual exploitation material (CSEM) crackdown, targeting workers accused of possessing, distributing, or viewing illegal content. The operation spanned five cruise ships, including the Disney Magic, that were inspected between April 23 and April 25 after investigations using digital evidence and coordinated enforcement. CBP cancelled visas and removed the suspects from the country, while passengers reportedly watched multiple crew members being taken into custody in San Diego.
Australian author Craig Silvey, known for Jasper Jones, has pleaded guilty to charges involving possession and distribution of child exploitation material. During proceedings, two additional charges were dropped. Silvey was first charged in January following a police raid, and his next court appearance is scheduled for July in the District Court. His bail has been continued.
