Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to lead the government in Tamil Nadu after securing support from several smaller parties. The combined strength of TVK and its allies pushed the coalition beyond the majority mark, helping avert what leaders described as a critical political crisis. Joseph Vijay’s TVK will now form the government and govern with its expanded backing.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam dismissed AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran’s claim that MLA-elect Kamaraj wrote a letter supporting Vijay for a coalition government. Dhinakaran visited Lok Bhavan with the letter, but TVK responded that its post-poll position doesn’t require bargaining or negotiation with any party. TVK had won 108 seats, missing the 118-seat majority mark.
