The Allahabad High Court granted bail to men accused in the Varanasi Ganga iftar row, where they were alleged to have eaten non-vegetarian food on a boat and thrown leftover waste into the river. Justice Rajiv Lochan Shukla passed the order while hearing bail applications, and set May 18 for the next round of pleas by other accused. During arguments, the defence said the men were falsely implicated and not named in the FIR filed on March 16.
A video from Haridwar’s Sarvanand Ghat shows a woman bathing her pet dog in the Ganga, triggering objections from local priests and residents who cited the river’s sanctity. The woman argued on the spot, and the clip quickly went viral, splitting online opinion between those calling it hypocrisy and those condemning the act as disrespectful.
