India is seeking a bigger say in shaping international standards for the fast-growing space sector, with global experts meeting in New Delhi for an ISO-focused discussion. Officials point to recent policy reforms and the creation of IN-SPACe as reasons India can influence how future space norms are written and implemented across countries.
IN-SPACe and BIS hosted the 36th ISO TC 20/SC 14 plenary and working group meetings at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, for the first time. From May 4–8, more than 200 delegates from 33 member nations in hybrid format will shape standards for sustainable, commercially viable space operations—spanning debris, environment, downstream services, and design engineering.
